a concept based on growing up Italian and Catholic, always being told to look good—but not too good

I was eating an Italian sfogliatella pastry thinking about the many layers that the pastry contains and the layers that make up my life, including growing up Italian and Catholic. going to CCD for 10 years at my church really changed my way of thinking; including how I present myself, being in relationships, and sex. my parents always told me to look good but not too good, and I wanted to showcase a collection that embodied the loudness and culture of Italian families along with this concept of showing yourself off—but not too much. like the pastry, I wanted to use literal layers of fabric to show and conceal parts of the body. going from tulle, to denim, to fur, I enjoyed experimenting with textiles of extremely different weights that I have never worked with together before.
